The Unraveling

By jojames1 written 11/1/05 1:33 PM, published 11/1/05 1:33 PM
(Heavily PS'd)

Tightly knit, I keep myself
So I don't fall apart
Full of flaws and imperfections
I simply can't face the Popup Linkworld.

Sometimes I get wound so tight
Like a balled up rubber band
I can feel my teeth cracking
In my Popup Linkmouth.

Then the unraveling begins and
I swirl around barely able
To see what happens in everyone
Else's grand Popup Linkuniverse.

The Popup Linkspinningcontinues until
I'm a puddle of mass
With no molecules left and
No desire to move.

Soon I begin winding up again
To start my Popup LinkHell anew.

Perhaps not safe for work.Popup LinkYou used to say that your just fine, I still wonder all the time... ~Since I don't have a scanner the text on this image is not legible, but in case you are wondering it is just an essay on self inflicted injury.

All of these images are film prints with no photoshopping effects on them other then a histogram adjustment.

3 Rolls Later...

By tempestskye written 10/23/05 4:01 PM, published 10/23/05 4:01 PM
So far this year, I have spent most of my time in my advanced photo class in the darkroom and the following are results of that work.

Our first assigned roll was a roll of our choice. It could contain any subject we wanted. I had to be at school on a Saturday for SAT prep class anyway, so I took my camera to class with me, planning to take photos after the class. When class was dismissed, I wandered over to the sand volleyball pit and took a picture of the Popup Linkdrinking fountain next to it. Then I wandered over to Popup Linktenis courts and took a photo of that. I took a few more photos in that area and walked down by the boys dorm, where I took a photo of the Popup Linkchains on the wooden bridge down there. On my way out of campus, I found some neat Popup Linkshadowy stairs.

Our second roll of film was chronicling an event during Spirit Week. I chose the Powder Puff Finals. The game began with the Senior girls in a Popup Linkhuddle in hopes to intimidate the Junior girls with their power. Later in the game, a student coach was going over the Popup Linkgame plan. The girls could sit on this Popup Linkbench if they wanted to, but no one did.

And, finally, our third roll for the year was our homage project. We were to choose a photograph we like and emulate it. I really liked the beauty and simplicity of Ansel Adam's "Oak Tree Sunrise" and after much searching, I found a Popup Linktree to photograph. Here's a Popup Linkvertical shot of that tree.

Waiting...

By kristyk written 10/22/05 7:05 AM, published 10/22/05 7:05 AM
...for my 24 hours to be up!  I wondered if the green tint in my last set of photos had something to do with the conditions.  All the pictures were taken in low light, just before dark.  I had to wash clothes at the laundromat yesterday, so I shot a roll of film there.  It was very bright, inside and out.  I think they turned out better than the first roll.

[and I didn't do any post-processing to these, just so you could see the difference the lighting made]

What else don't I know?

By kristyk written 10/21/05 6:46 AM, published 10/21/05 6:46 AM
I just discovered Kodak's black and white film that can be processed in regular chemicals.  Do you know what that means?  No more long waits for development.  No more extra charges.  I can't believe no one ever told me about this!  These pictures are from my first roll.  I thought they turned out a tad on the greenish side, but still ok.  I used the auto mode for all of them and no cropping, etc.  Popup LinkPouting and Popup Linkreading in the van while we wait for dad.  The baby got a new Popup Linkhairdo.  My husband and his son share a Popup Linkcigar to celebrate the new Popup Linkbaby.

Any other film recommendations for me?

Assignment 14/14

By kristyk written 10/14/05 8:32 PM, published 10/14/05 8:32 PM
I used some old pictures and took some new ones for this theme.  I tried to include shots taken with several different cameras, including my digital Olympus, Polaroid, Polaroid Spectra, and new Canon Rebel [film].  Enjoy!

Popup LinkWhat the? How a pig becomes pork.

Popup LinkDo you see what I see? Our oldest daughter took this picture.  We had broken down in the desert with no water and almost no tools.  My husband had worked all day to get the truck running.  I was so relieved!  I gave him a big hug without realizing that she had the camera.

Popup LinkIs that legal?   What kind of babysitter lets a four month old smoke?!

It is the Popup Linklittle things that make me happy!

My better Popup Linkhalf.

Echo gets Popup Linksticky at the skate park.

During our last camping trip, the kids had a contest to see who could keep this little guy Popup Linkon the edge the longest.

This Popup Linkdummy was enjoying the graffiti across the street when I came along.

I had to include my husband for
Popup Linkfaux, since that's what he does all day!

Every  Popup LinkSunday, we have a BBQ in the front yard and watch the kids play.

Today, I went with my son's class on a field trip to the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park.  Most of the kids found the cow with a hole in it's stomach Popup Linkintimidating,  but it didn't seem to bother the baby Popup Linktoo much.

Our family has a lot to Popup Linkcelebrate.  My step-son and his wife welcomed their first child into the world today, making me a GRANDMA!!  Her name is Madison Michele and she is just five pounds.  What a cutie!

There is so much craziness in the world today.  I looked at her little face, so innocent and trusting and my heart overflowed with emotion.  In  Popup Linkthe end, love is all that matters.

More from the Balloon Fiesta

By kristyk written 10/12/05 8:37 PM, published 10/12/05 8:37 PM
I got another roll of film developed that I took a little later in the night.  They show the 'glow' part of the balloon glow a little better.  The balloons would Popup Linkwait in the dark while the announcer counted down.

And I know clouds are way overdone, but I have to share this picture I took of the Popup Linkcouds over Elephant Butte on the way home.  I am so in love with New Mexico skies!

Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

By kristyk written 10/9/05 5:37 PM, published 10/9/05 5:37 PM
I finally got a camera. Life happened and I only ended up with $200 to spend.  I looked at Popup Linkmy options and decided that Popup Linkfilm was the best choice for me.  I got the Canon Rebel K2.    I love the Popup Linkcolor and feel of film.  The autofocus on this one has made it much easier for me to catch Popup Linkcandid shots.

I was planning to make a trip to the Four Corners area to take some photographs over the long weekend.  Just north of Albuquerque, my van broke down:  strange town, after dark, alone with seven kids.  SCARY!  My husband drove up the next day to fix things.  Instead of the trip north, we stayed in Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta.  It was a great Popup Linkfamily outing.  Since we went at night, we saw the Popup Linkballoon glow.  Popup LinkThe kids liked the balloons, but I was more impressed with Popup Linkthe sky.

It got a little chilly, so the baby got a Popup Linknew jacket and the rest of us got some  Popup Linkhot food.   Popup LinkRed, white and blue lights lined the field.  Popup LinkVendors hung out under white circus tents.

My mom and dad went on vacation to Michigan to see lighthouses.  I couldn't tell you were all these are located except that they are all on Lake Michigan.  I did get permission to post them from my parents.  Now you all know where I got my photography passion.  They would love comments and I am hoping that my dad will post some of the film pics that he took, they are outstanding.

I haven't had a chance to do much, but here's a hint of the Popup Linkdifferent Popup Linkkinds of Popup Linkmusic I like.  These are from my "archives", as I haven't been to a concert in a few years.  I took my daughter to see Popup LinkTravis Popup LinkTritt for her birthday one year.  Popup LinkHe filmed a video in Knoxville; it was a great time!  The pics of him are film and I scanned them.  Hope y'all enjoy!

A trip of a lifetime!

By The Dancefloor written 9/26/05 9:56 AM, published 9/26/05 9:56 AM
It all started when Lee, Jim and I decided that a trip to Ibiza (via Barcelona) was in order.  We should have know trouble was ahead of us right then and there!  We went anyway.

Out apartment in Barcelona was located off a really cool little Popup Linkroad, but unfortunately was clogged up by a film crew making a Popup Linkmovie of some sort.  That didn't slow us down a bit.  We headed straight for the Popup LinkBeach which was topless to our suprise! (family site, no smutty pics here!)  After a day of that, we did a little sight seeing and hit up this Popup Linkmuseum, which was completely boring! So we jumped a train to Popup LinkValencia!

It was around Jult 1st, which happened to be the month of flowers there.  Our hotel looked out over this little Popup Linksquare.  We were only there for a day before jumping on this  Popup Linkboat  to Ibiza - sweet!  Upon arrival, we saw a bay full of Popup LinkYachts which seemed to be a good omen (for some strange reason!)

After checking into our new digs, we headed straight for club Eden for Popup LinkJudgement Sunday - it was an initiation tot he club scene in Ibiza.  Soon after cam Manumission at Privelage, After hours at Space and afternoons at the Cafe del Mar wehre we met some great  >.Popup LinkPeople.  One friend with Popup Linkblue eyes was esepecially Popup Linktrouble!!!  One highlight was seeing DJ Tiesto's album release at Amnesia.  This is about what I  Popup Linkremember of the Popup Linkevening/morning! Acutally that's the memory of most nights in Ibiza!

The next few days we hung out and took day trips ... here's me on one of those Popup Linkexcursions  The other times we just hung out in the  Popup LinkWest End or cruised up Popup Linkthe main drag.   After 2 weeks in Spain, seven spent in Ibiza, it was time to come home and let the Popup Linksun set on our most eye opening adventure to date.

Thanks for reading, take care ... the Dancefloor

(fyi - all the pics are small because I had to scan them and the file sizes messed up - sorry)
