A walk with a dog

By MRQUACKERS written 8/27/08 1:05 PM, published 8/27/08 10:42 PM

Where MsQ works, they have a dog; meet Everett.  The vet told the people there that he has to loose some weight.  So, she went and pick him up; then we went for a walk.  Along the way we saw some yellow flowers, and even some orange ones.  Of course there were these purple things growing everywhere.  Hopefully the doggie lost some weight.

Watch out, Flower-graphica will not die!

We were just waiting for our seats for dinner and shot the cover for the theater box office. Shot this with the Kodak Z1012 I got just a couple of hours prior.

Co-Pilots Log Day 5

By Monkee Armada written 8/27/08 4:58 PM, published 8/27/08 4:58 PM

Co-Pilots Log: Day 5; the Grand Canyon. It’s the 31st of July, 2008 A.D. 11:26 P.M. Mountain time. We’ve just set up camp inside the Grand Canyon National Park. We set up the tent in the dark; it cost twelve dollars for one night on a bed of rocks. We’re surrounded by European Tourist German is being spoken to the left and the right; at the communal toilets I heard French and possibly Dutch. We are tired and we’ve logged as many fights as miles now. The trip out of New Mexico and into Arizona was long. Our morning began with a six hundred dollar drop on new brakes for Murder van. The trip through the mountains of southern Colorado cost us dearly. We missed our scheduled trip to the Aztec ruins. By the time we reached Four Corners we were hot and at each other’s throat yet again. The arguing did not detract from the awe of the land. I saw through it long enough to marvel at the fact that we were standing on the edge of four states. We passed a group of old men on big expensive Harleys and I imagined myself making the journey back in similar fashion someday. Massive dessert plains contain the odd husk of a burned out car dotted the route out. Arizona air is dry and the landscape is old I can see how a politician like John McCain could come to power here. The area we drove through was on a Native American reservation. It was one of four reservations that we passed through. The sheer poverty that most of them lived in was disheartening. Huge billboards with Native American celebrities I didn’t recognize stated oddly-“I care if you drive drunk”. Their ramshackled houses and broken down trailers where not eclipsed by their newly built community centers and food distribution centers. We rode with the feeling of being in a third world country. When other people complain of how bad they have it and how the white man is holding them down I will tell them of this shit. Yet the tribe which borders the canyon seems to have benefited most from the tourist trade. Their streets where clean and the town itself looked extremely typical. There were McyDs’ , and Taco Bell. We saw a Native American skate park and overheard a local punk band. I would have loved to stay and watch the show, but we were trying to make it to the camp ground before dark, so much for that. There’s a rock poking me in the ass and I reek of Deep Woods Off. I’ve now been hit up for change by three separate Native American tribesmen. I have seen some absolutely beautiful sites in the last five days my mind is fried. I have two shots of Moonshine left, and some warm whiskey to help get me to sleep. I’m begining to feel the cab of Murder Van is too small for the Captain and my egos. I hope we can reach Vegas in one piece. I lay back and look up at the stars next to the Capitan it’s almost too much to process.

One of the best things about photography is how it provides memories and glimpses of moments that you might otherwise forget.  So as I was looking at SB in the low light, thinking about how she was already almost 3...I took a photo, so I could  remember it all...

No Parking Winter up here is not always bad. We had a storm the night before and the wife and I went into town for a beer and a drink the next day and since we had our cameras with us we took a few pictures of the snowdrifts. I get a chuckle out of this one.

After the sun went away

By enigmaticfaerie written 8/27/08 7:18 AM, published 8/27/08 7:18 AM

We couldn't just abandon our journey just because the sun went away.  We had seen the map, we had read the names of all the arches in this pass and at the end there was a thing called "The Dark Angel."  And by joe, that just sounded freaking awesome!  We were on a mission, whether the sun was behind clouds or beaming down on us.  We had cameras, snacks, water and determination to get to that Dark Angel, whatever it may be.

As we journeyed we talked about film, photography, school, life and eventually started to wonder just where this thing could be?  It's name just oozed awesomeness, yet all we know is it's at the end of the trail.  We passed by fins and arches.  Climbed through "primitive" trail (aka you scale a rock the best you can without any kind of guide except stacked stones to reassure you you're still on the right path) and even got to walk across fins.  Which was awesome.
It was about two people wide and one side you looked down and thought to yourself "Wow, if I fell off I just might break an arm or leg."  Then you looked down the other side and you thought to yourself "Oh dear God, Please don't let me fall off that side and die!"

But we had fun joking about it and trekking along all the same.  Finally we came to the Double O Arch (I know I have a better shot with my film) and we knew we were close.  Because on the map there was only one arch left before the Dark Angel and that was the Double O.  So we kept trekking and trekking and trekking, only to find that the Dark Angel was a huge Monolith that you could very well see from the Double O it was so big.  Yes, cool.  But at the same time, with a name like The Dark Angel we were expecting a little more....oomph to it.

So we had a story to tell everyone back at camp and we can officially say out of the 8 of us there we were the only two who touched The Dark Angel.  I guess that's about as good as it can get.

Clouds at Noon

By bluehiker written 8/26/08 6:30 PM, published 8/26/08 6:30 PM

Around lunch time at work, I happened to look outside and see some really cool clouds in the sky. At this time of the year, in this part of California, the skys are usually cloud-free (or, as I think of it, "cloud-poor"). Luckily, because of the challege, I had my camera with me, so I hopped on down to a nearby park to do some shooting.  Normally, I wouldn't bother at this time of the day, because the sunlight is so harsh, but those clouds demanded it.  Here's the results:  Clouds

My Husband Took These! He did GREAT!

By Penny written 8/26/08 11:25 AM, published 8/26/08 11:25 AM

Okay so he goes on a trip to Canada.  He left me for ten long days.  But what matters is he had the time of his life and that is what it was all about. I sent my small camera with him.  My Fuji.  After seeing these pics I remember why I loved that camera!  (OH I do love him too!) I would have loved to be the one that took several of the pics that he brought back. Anyhow with a quick lesson in photography....these are just some of the great shots he took:

 Front of the boat

Fog

Fishing Friends

He said he took this especially for me!  (Even though there are several that he had the eye for)

Docked

Coke

7 cents

For anyone who knows me on here.  You know I have been trying forever to get a good male eagle picture.  This one he is just bragging....lol  I love it and he was so happy to get it and call me right up.  He took several!

 Eagle

They are all just like they came off the camera. No need to critique.  I am afraid if he learns much more he might take over my D50....lol
