Just went out to learn more about using my exposure time and aputure settings.
I have new garden lights that make a nice glow in my front garden. I decided to take some photos.
Let me know how they are. Would like to learn more on how to do night shots. This is a Nikon D40 camera, some limitations at what i can do with it. Tri pod used also.;)

My wife and I spent the evening of July 4th sitting on the deck of a local restaurant where we had a good view of the fireworks. I shot several photos there, both the daylight scenery and after dark.

Last photo is a shot I used in sepia mode of the walkway of our temporary draw bridge.

I think I get my money's worth out of the camera. My instructors at college always encouraged us to look at things with a new eye, and this camera has helped me do that.
A week or so ago I posted some photos of lightning at White Sands. My intention that evening was to take advantage of the full moon and maybe learn something about night photography. Here's what I was up to before the storm distracted me. . .

This is roll one i have another roll of film of some nature shots i will be uploading very soon. Please again critique me let me know what I am doing wrong.
OK... I don't do this normally but the shoulder is still AFU and I can't carry my gear around. This means you get a repeat post. There are a lot of new users that haven't seen these anyway.
Playing On The Freeway
Well above the freeway anyway.
I'd been wanting to try this with my digital for a long time. I shot some years ago on film but there is so much guessing involved. All shots with my 20D and 50mm F 1.8 lens. ISO 100. The time period was from just after sunset until fall on your rear dark. Taken from a freeway overpass.
If you decide to try this... do NOT drop your camera. You will mess it up! Wear light colored clothes so you don't get your butt run over by someone on the overpass.
Just After Sunset F16, 13 sec
Getting Darker F18, 18 sec
It's Dark Out There F8, 33 sec
Extra F8, 48 sec
Sorry about the summer rerun. I'd rather have been able to go shoot new ones.
I'm rather new here, so I'm slowly building up the gallery. I'm in a position where I'm really wanting to get as much exposure as possible. This site seems like it might be a decent way to do that. Well, for a while, I've done mostly purely through my account at deviantART, but as decent as it is, still not exactly what I want.Well, the following are some pics of my backlog:
Steak 'n' Shake has been a rather big part of my life for the last few years. It's a great place to spend several hours, working on just about anything, open 24 hours, so they'll always welcome you. Though I haven't been there so much during the last couple of years, it still holds a bit of importance to me. Here's a monoscopic shot I did with my Stereo Realist. Had some major problems with the camera that night, so this is one of the few shots that came out decent.
Hibernia is where I live. It's the only apartment complex I've ever seen with its own cemetery right in the middle of the complex. But that was because Carlisle Cemetery was closely connected to the old town of Hibernia, OH. Hibernia, though, is now folded in as part of Columbus. I have some slides of the cemetery. Maybe I'll post them someday once I get the slides scanned.
This was a fun shoot... had my roommate go up and start firing the flash at the building to illuminate it even more. The ones living there didn't really enjoy it, though. This is some of my digital photography.
The Hunting Master -- well, Jaegermeister isn't something I actually enjoy, but I love the bottles. Another Digital photo of mine.
I love infrared photography. I've only done digital so far, though. These shots of
Lake Hope and
Hope Furnace are from my first major experimentation with it and remains two of my favorite shots.
My friend just moved into a apartment building. His apartment is located on the 18th floor. He has a great view from the balcony. He is afraid of heights so he will not go out on the balcony. I took these pictures.
I took these shots back in November...It was a cold night, but I got my shots.
Lights
Lights I
Lights II
Lights III.I used a 30 second exposure on them and used my old pentex camera for these shots.
Thanks to everyone's tips yesterday, I've improved on my moon photos. Still not perfect, but a definite improvement.
Continuing the night theme, on Australia Day (Jan 26) we went to the South Perth foreshore for the fireworks (along with a few hundred thousand other people).
Perth at Night
Fireworks!
More fireworks!
Sunset at Fishing Boat Harbour, Fremantle, on a warm summer night when there were big bushfires in the hills. As we walked down to the harbour there was ash falling from the sky, despite being 40km away from the action.
And finally, the
War Memorial at Kings Park.
This adobe church in Tularosa is one of my favorites.

Read on for his answers to your questions...
So, I ask all of you to take a look at his website and think of some questions you would like to ask. The editors and I will pick the best ones that are not answered in his back story (which is a great read) or technique page and send them off to Troy for a response.
I'll send these questions to him on Monday, November 21'st.
