Female Osprey landing on her nest. Notice that she keeps her talons tightly closed when landing so she doesn't injure her chicks in the nest.

Cooling Off On A Hot Day

Dee and I spent the morning watching one of our favorite Osprey Nest here in New Jersey. This nest has three, 3 week old chicks in it and the female Osprey was working real hard at keeping her chicks cool on a very hot & humid day. The Female Osprey was flapping her wings to fan her chicks and she was using her wings like an umbrella to shade them from the hot sun. After all this work the female Osprey really needed to cool herself down. She took off from the nest and dove into the cool water, then she flew right back to her nest.  It was really amazing watching this female Osprey careing for her young... Cooling Off

Hurray, I can make a slideshow and put it in my story!!!!! Thank you Cory for fixing that. ;)

OK, thats out of the way, Now about the story.

My family and I went on our yearly camping trip to Allegheny state park and I have many photos to share. But I will try to keep it simple and in Parts. This first post is some of the animals that I got shots of. And just to let you know I seemed to become camera Stupid on the trip. I left some settings on my camera that I should have not used and when I got home to down load them I had to fix some of the photos. did my best but not trying to be a pro, just want to share.I put them into slideshows to make it less cluttered. The first slideshow is of birds, woodchucks, deer and a toad. Camping 2008

The last 2 bird shots are unknown to me so if anyone can identify them please do.

The second is small but is the Osprey that nest near the lake we go to swim at. They are there every year. This year there were 3 Young Osprey and they were fun to watch. This is where my bad setting became a problem. the back ground was way too over exposed and I did my best to make it better. these are the only two that I am willing to show.  camping 2008_2  Also a unknown moth.

Enjoy and all comments welcome. ;)
