Pain and Suffering

By Pyro43 written 8/26/06 3:35 PM, published 8/26/06 3:35 PM

Webster defines pain as a: usually localized physical suffering associated with bodily disorder (as a disease or an injury); also b: a basic bodily sensation induced by a noxious stimulus, received by naked nerve endings, characterized by physical discomfort (as pricking, throbbing, or aching), and typically leading to evasive action b: acute mental or emotional distress or suffering such as grief

Webster defines suffering as a: to submit to or be forced to endure

Pain and suffering comes in many forms and sizes. It can be caused by things we use or by things we don’t use.

There is the daily pain of the Popup Linkneedle prick which causes very little suffering, as the pain is short lived. However, if not done faithfully, there may lay ahead much suffering such as kidney or heart problems, loss of sight or limbs.

There arePopup Linkthings that, if not used, will lead to pain and suffering.
There are other things that when used toPopup Linkexcess can cause pain and suffering for loved ones.

There is always pain and suffering (see pain b: above) when we lose Popup Linkparents. The pain will last a long time, most probably a lifetime. Though I’ve lost my parents, I have not lost a child. I can’t answer how the pain of losing parents compares to losing a child of your own. I hope to never find that out, and I pray for those that have.

How about the pain caused by Popup Linkthese six? Another short lived pain that is gone when the toughness arrives and the sweetness begins.

Then there is the pain and suffering caused by Popup Linkfire. For eleven years, I have been associated with Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety.  One of the ways I’m involved is by donating Popup Linkdogtags for the kids and counselors to wear at the annual burn camp that is sponsored by the alliance . The burn camp is for children ages 8 thru 17 that have been burned. Many have been burned quite Popup Linkbadly , with Popup Linkscars to last a lifetime. Several of the counselors also are burn victims so know and understand the pain and suffering. The camp gives the kids week to Popup Linkmingle with others that have been burned. Media day brings Popup Linkclowns ,Popup Linkbikers and rides on the Popup Linkfire apparatus and Popup Linkhorse drawn wagon .

The goal of Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety is to eliminate burns of all kinds.

Would you do me a favor, please? You may think it’s a Pain to change the battery in your smoke detector, but it just might eliminate some Suffering and Popup Linktears.

My wife is one of those 'chosen ones' who has chronic migraines. When it comes to migraine headaches cool and dark is best!

Wisdom? Tooth

I was thinking what I could shoot to show pain and suffering for the challenge, when my eyes picked up an object on my desk... a wisdom tooth.  It's almost like a family heirloom now.
About 6 months or so ago, I had a toothache, but being me I hate to go to the dentist, or doctor either!  I don't really fear them it's more a fear of appointments, I hate to have things scheduled for me to do. I bothers me no end, the closer the time gets the more anxious I get.  Doesn't matter if it's a colonoscopy appointment or a party.  Anyway this went on for awhile until I felt something coming thru the gum behind where I have teeth.  It felt like it was crooked or something and not anchored well either.
Warning... the squeamish may wish to skip to the next paragraph.  So, I got out a pair of angled pliers, a washcloth, some gauze, and an X-Acto knife.  I cut the gums away with the knife till I could get a grip on it with the pliers, I gripped it thru the washcloth for a better grip, and popped it out, plugged the hole with gauze till it stopped bleeding and saved myself the pain and suffering of waiting on an appointment.  I did this while Barb was at work cause she would have freaked out.  Everyone wanted to see it, even had to take it down the street and show my aunt.  I thought I'd keep it and leave it in my estate to the kids. 8o)
