Bi-weekly challenge - Highlights & Shadows

A couple of close ups of a rose.
Rose number one
Rose number two
First Shot

This is one of the first shots with my new EFS 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens for my Canon XTi and couldn't be happier.
A great lens at a reasonable price.
My kids give me amazon gift certificates for Christmas to make it possible.
Thanks for looking!
Best Shot - Gazing Out...

I was wondering if I could get some more detailed critique on this shot... any little thing. I wasn't sure about it at first but it's kind of grown on me. XD
Thanks!
Let Me Show You My Collection
All were shot w/B&W film (Mamiya 645). Printed in my darkroom on Kodak Polycontrast RC paper, and toned with Kodak Sepia Toner.
They aren't building any new ones except for the portable models - - :)
Someday they will all be gone - :(
Upper Antelope Canyon

Decided to give Pablo's challenge a go.
I confess these are from a trip in October, but just went through them again and put a few through Lightroom.
To go to Upper Antelope Canyon you need to hire a Navaho guide because it is on the Navaho Reservation. It was very crowded, lots of tours going through as well as photo tours, which we were on. You had to shoot high enough to go over heads but low enough to keep from shooting the sky and getting blow outs.
A cable release and tripod are necessary for the long exposures. ISO between 400 and 600.
Thanks for looking and have a good rest of the week
Highlights & Shadows

Without these,an image is flat with low impact... Light_is_key ... light_play ... Drama light .
A Cold Day At Niagara Falls USA
On Monday my children went back to school and my Husband went back to work. Hurray I have some Me time. So what do I do with this 'Me' time I go to the Falls (that of which I have not Done in a while) to get some pictures. It rather cold and a bit windy but I dealt with it.
Here are some of the photos I took.
The last photo of the Squirrel was so funny. I think someone at the Visitors center I took it at has been feeding him. ;)
Thank you for looking and have a great Photo day. ;)

Angry Lola

This is the look of an angry cat. To say she hates taking her meds is a vast understatement. But take them she must-she has a heart condition. We are doing what we can to keep her alive, though our resources are limited. Lola, as the photo shows, has two different colored eyes, and is a beautiful, unique feline. She is mellow and sometimes cuddly, when the mood strikes her, especially in the winter time. She is also very smart-and when she sees that towel in daddy's hands, she bolts, and then we have to catch her. I wish we didn't have to put her through the stress of taking her meds, but frankly, we, and Heidi, would be lost without her. So we are doing what we can to keep our Lola with us...as long as we can.
Astroland Icon (The Rocket) Highlights & Shadows Challenge

Yesterday they took the Astroland Icon, the rocket, down from it's perch on the Coney Island Boardwalk, throwing the town into shadows. The whole thing has me walking in shadowland. I apoligize.
Charles Denson, director of the Coney Island History Project says his group is currently in "serious negotiations" with a group that will move the rocket to a new Coney location. "It looks like it [might] be staying. It's a survivor, and it'll keep the Astroland name alive. It's a time capsule; everything inside is absolutely preserved." Charles Denson author of Coney Island Lost and Found the definitive reference book of Coney Island.
The Rocket is 46 years old and Astroland is the only home it's ever known! Looks like the Rocket's poised for a journey. I hope there's a place for it in the "new" Coney Island. - Tricia - Save Coney Island Coalition
Neptune City - Nicole Atkins
You can't see me from this view
All the way down
Trailing the procession
I'll hide out a few more days
Then I'll be leaving this place soon
Our hearts are singing out just for you
A cemetery song for summer
And if we knew just what we could do
A cemetery song we'd not sing
I'm sitting over Neptune City
I used to love it
It used to be pretty
I'll come down, walk around a while
Until I'm sure I can never go home again
Maybe if I paid attention
I could learn to love the landscape I was born to
By the river in the rain
Let it make me new again
Our hearts are singing out just for you
A cemetery song for summer
And if we knew just what we could do
A cemetery song we'd not sing
I'm sitting over Neptune City
I used to love it
It used to be pretty
I'll come down, walk around a while
Until I'm sure I can never go home again
From a drive
Two Photos

I have missed posting my photos. Life got busy... I guess that's water under the bridge...
and I still don't know how to type accurately! (poinsettia)

Happy New Year to everyone ! :)

Glowing Lola Eyes

Glowing Lola eyes This is a photo I took this morning of our girl Lola. Lola is one of two sister cats hubby raised from tiny kittens. The other sister, Heidi, is deaf, and has the kitty mentality of a two year old, so Lola looks out for her a lot. This photo was taken from the living room; Lola was in the dining room, relaxing by her food and water bowls. We recently found out that Lola has a heart condition, and now she is on daily medication. Giving it to her is a story unto itself, a story I will soon tell with another photo, taken just after she had taken her meds. Saving Lola's life was a given for us; she and her sister, and my male orange tabby, Spazzy, are part of our family. Now if only we could get Lola to understand all that!
