Door County Sunset

By Roundabout written 8/19/06 7:50 PM, published 8/19/06 7:50 PM
My wife and I recently went on vacation to Door County Wisconsin.  It is one of the most beautiful places we've ever been, and we've been many places.  The sunsets there are the most beautiful I've ever seen.Popup LinkSunset These photos were taken at Sister Bay, exept for the lighting photo.Popup LinkLightning Shot It was taken one night near Gills Rock.  This is my first story here.  I hope you enjoy reading it and looking at my pictures.  I have certainly enjoyed looking at your pictures.  Thank You!

A few scenics

By LindasJon written 6/8/06 3:17 PM, published 6/8/06 3:17 PM
Here are a a few "scenic" shots I have taken.

Previous post feedback encouraged moving the horizon line away from the middle of the frame; Good advice, but it seems I have done this here a few times as well. Gotta watch that.

Please pick them apart at random as you see fit.

Narrows Covered Bridge

By loweho written 4/3/06 10:54 AM, published 4/3/06 10:54 AM
Barb and I went to Turkey Run State Park Sunday. It looked like the sun was going to come out early on but it didn't and we got caught in a thunderstorm before we got back. We were the second people there and the ones ahead scared this Popup Linkturkey vulture away before I could get close... at least I had a chance to get the tele on.
Here's a Popup Linkview from the suspension bridge across Sugar Creek. We were waiting to see where those ahead went before deciding and naturally they were going where we were so we changed plans and walked up the opposite side of the creek.
Not too far from the suspension bridge you can see Popup LinkGoose Rock. I don't know how it got it's name. When I first set this shot up I thought "Dang it! Some jerk thru a blue plastic bag in the creek!" (self-edited for front page) but then it moved.  Here's that small section Popup Linkblown up!  Blue but not a plastic bag. It flew off before we could get closer... our theme for the day.
After Goose Rock, you'd think we'd see some Popup Linkgeese and we did! The one is not walking on water... the water is only a few inches deep there.  We passed a Popup Linksmall waterfall.  We seen an old Popup Linkuprooted tree that was a harbinger of what was to come later on that night for us and others in the Midwest.
We finally made it to the Popup LinkNarrows Covered Bridge. It's located at the East boundary of the park next to a road and bridge that replaced it. Here's another Popup LinkView, that's the old historic Lusk Home on the hill behind it.  Here's a view of the trusses Popup Linkinside and a view of the windows used to let light in I Popup Linkliked the red glow reflected off the side of the bridge.
We walked to the other side and heard a loud growling noise coming from under the new concrete bridge, naturally had to check it out, it was coming from a hole in the rocks under the Popup Linkgrafitti painted on the bridge. We tried to trick it into coming out by both of us getting down then Barb leaving while I stayed but as I was watching the mystery was solved when another pigeon flew in the hole.  Even after knowing it was a pigeon it still sounded like loud growling... must have been the acoustics of the funnel shaped hole. It started to lightning and thunder then and we headed back after putting on the ponchos. All in all, a great day!

Here are some signs we seen in the park.
Popup LinkNo swimming I guess if you drown you still get prosecuted.
Popup LinkExtreme Danger This is on top of Goose Rock.
Popup LinkGoose Rock This is beside Goose Rock (Barb took it). She also took the thumbnail of me.  Remember the camera adds 10 (maybe 20) pounds.

This is another sign we seen back in town... it should say Popup LinkBook Store. You have to admire the guy that went to all the trouble to climb on the roof of the building to paint that. Cuz it was hard work! Just kidding!  This is my usual long-winded production but at least it's not Texas Roadohouse... I do go other places!  If ya stuck this long, Thanks!

On the road...

Here's the last of the pics from our two-day casino run. We had a comped room at Caesar's and Grand Victoria. Tuesday we stayed at Caesar's. On Wednesday we left there drove over to Belterra for awhile and then continued on to Grand Victoria where we stayed the night. All three casinos are richer for having known us. Caesar's, Belterra, and Grand Victoria, all are riverboat casinos located along the Ohio River between Indiana and Kentucky.

This first set were all taken from the window of the moving car (unless noted)... Barb will not slow down or stop between casinos.  I took them mainly to keep my mind off Barb's driving...

Reminder

Just thought I'd remind all of y'all in the Pacific Northwest what it looks like when it's actually sunny outside. Just a quick Popup Linksnapshot on the way to my parents house today.

Where to start???

Well, I've had a Popup Linkbusy couple of months  lately and haven't been able to visit Photographica as much as I Popup Linkwould have liked, but I have still been using my camera!  So, without further adieu, here's what I've been up to...

Went to a cool Popup Linkannual lantern festival in East Van.  Lots of hippies around.  It's great!

Vancouver also has an annual Popup Linkfireworks competition that I love to attend.  You have to sit on the beach for a while and Popup Linkwait for the show to start , and all you can do is look at Popup Linkboring things around you.

I've visted a Popup Linkcouple of Popup Linklakes in our nice and Popup Linkhot August.  Popup LinkI saw some Popup Linkinteresting people and Popup Linkwild life.  While up in the interior, you absolutely must visit the Popup Linkaward winning Popup Linkokanagan wineries.  On the way to and from the lakes, there's Popup Linkalways Popup Linksomething interesting to shoot when you're not driving. :)

As well as all this travel, I've also bought my first home!!!  Here's part of my Popup Linknew view.  I'm moving in 2 weeks, and then hope to hunker down and spend more time on Photographica... ;)

Hope everyone's been well and like my latest pics!

Both sides of the bridge.

While driving through Vermont some years ago I saw a covered bridge as I passed it. Well, you know I had to stop and check it out. Unfortunately, it was under repair and had graffiti all over it. So, I went down to the river underneath it and started shooting. I shot down river firstPopup Linkdown and then shot the bank on the other side upriver. I was shooting this view when the light came through the tree line and hit the weeds/broomstraw just right Popup Linkfirewater to just catch fire it seemed for about 5 mins. I was glad that I didn't spend time shooting that bridge after all. Funny how it works out like that sometimes.

Beautiful Mexico

This spring, I got married in Cancun, Mexico.  It was a small ceremony, and a friend took pics of the wedding for Popup Linkus.  Each room had a view of the Popup Linkocean, and the resort was Popup Linkdecorated very nicely, as well.  We went parasailing and I took Popup Linkpictures of the hotel from the sky.  It was great fun, and the Popup Linksunsets were worth going for, on their own.

I won (3rd in) a Canada-wide photo contest!

By Kody written 7/12/05 4:07 PM, published 7/12/05 4:07 PM
The theme that my photo was entered in was "Scenic".

Which one do you think won?  Which one do you like best?  How could they be improved?

O Canada

My future husband and I went to Canada in 2003 to spend the 4th of July.  The weather was MUCH more pleasant than Arkansas in summer and the views were beautiful.  We spent the week fishing and getting to know the locals (squirrels, chipmunks and groundhogs in particular).Popup LinkLocal Popup LinkHere Fishy Fishy

I was cleaning some today and ran across this shot of a local covered bridgePopup Link before it got washed downstream in a flood. It has since been rebuilt/restored. I haven't been to it since the rebuilding, but have seen the write up in the paper. Anyway, I just thought I would share it with you. Happy Independence Day everyone!!
