Its been a while since the camrea has gotten some fresh air.
I went downtown inspite of the recent Popup LinkSeattle Monorail Collision. I wanted to share what i find Popup LinkIronic,  the enginer who designed the Popup LinkSeattle Monorail decided that a Popup Linknarrow section between the two track was acceptable.  Unfortunatly on when two trains run in Popup Linkthis turn at the same time you get Popup Linkthis.  Needless to say this problem is being resolved as we speak...
Popup LinkThis is what generaly happens when you get me Popup Linkdowntown with a camera...
I recently Popup Linkfinished a Popup Linkproject that I Popup Linkhad been working on for my friends daughter's 2nd birthday. Popup LinkThis is a closeup of the best airbrushing I have ever put my name on.  Happy Birthday Popup LinkNatalie

As I get older, I love Popup Linkthe fall more and more. This year especially, as Popup Linkmushroom hunting is a new favorite pasttime of ours. Popup Link13 pounds of chanterelles, our biggest haul to date, meant we had to forego Popup Linkhighly amusing gastric opportunities.

It's been another LOOONNG day.  With a little help from you, I've added a brand new way to navigate this website.  What did I add?  Tags.  Aka Folksonomies

What the heck are tags?
Tags are a way you, the members of this site, can categorize the many, many posts found on this website.  If your post is about Lights in Seattle, you'd tag the post as "Lights" and "Seattle".  The system has a built in way of checking your tag against what already exists, so you might want to use that.

I'll write more... but I'm mentally dead
Yup... I've been doing this since 9 this morning, so that is about 12 hours straight.

Night ya'll... I'll explain more tommorow.

PS:  DailyKOS.  Eat your heart out.

I recently went to San Juan Island to celebrate my dad's 10 year anniversary with my step mom.  They have a beautiful old hotel in Roache Harbor, and an even more gorgeous garden.  While waiting for everyone to finish up their shopping, I snapped a few shots.

Now, I'm no horticulturist, so I have no idea what most of these things are, except for this Popup Linkred dahlia and this Popup Linksunflower.

A friend of mine and I went to see one of our college buds stationed at Ft. Lewis outside of Seattle.  After a day of touring, we went to a Mariners' game.  Under the Popup LinkSafecolights we saw Mr. Popup LinkSuzukistrike his famous pose.
The next day, we went to Mt. Rainier Nat. Park, found a saw a nice view of the Popup LinkMountain Stream, and a beautiful view of thePopup LinkMountain.  The next day we went to the San Juan Islands and took a ferry to Friday Harbor.  I found the famousPopup Linklighthouse, but no Orcas.  I was bummed.  Oh well.  As we left I had one more nice view of Popup LinkRainierfrom the air

If you live in or around Seattle, the fine folks at Discovery Park are running a photography contest. Whoever takes the best picture of the park will be featured in a calander. Details are here: cityofseattle.net

In other news, I purchased a new webserver. Once I'm done setting it up, it will house all 10 gigabytes of images, stories and comments that accumulated over the last three years of Photographica's operation.

Server Porn: The server a 1U Dell PowerEdge 350 with a 1ghz P3, dual 80 gig IDE drives (RAID'ed) and 512 megs of ram. While it's not the fastest or newest box, for $350 you really cant go wrong. The system will be running SuSE Linux 9.1, Apache 1.3.27, mod_perl, ImageMagik, and MySQL. The server will be with XLAN, a hosting company I run and it will be in the Westin Building in Downtown Seattle running off a very, very fast network. The box will be used exclusively to run Photographica, which is based on a highly modified version of Scoop, a content management system.

Cross Country Road Trip

Starting November 13th, I took a roadtrip across the nation - beginning in New Orleans, LA, and ending in Seattle, WA. I honed my skills at shooting my digital from moving vehicles - such as this shot of Popup Linka breezy (experimental aircraft) shot from an autogyro (another experimental aircraft) in Lafayette, LA. On a road trip through Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, and up the Left Coast, one can see unusual things, such as a snowstorm in the Popup LinkMojave.

Shooting from the car was the norm on this trip, like these pictures from West Texas of Popup Linka tree and Popup Linkan oil well. This is Popup Linka railside grain mill also in West Texas, which we left to drive through the middle of nowhere and observe Popup Linka very memorable sunset in New Mexico. Occasionally, I'd get out of the car and get to shoot Popup LinkElana and Bisous having fun on a beach in the redwoods, or Popup Linkan eerie moonrise. There are many beautiful shots of the redwood forests, but I picked these Popup Linkmossy trees and this Popup Linktiny mushroom for an illustration of scale.

I decided to post this here since there are quite a few seattle/tacoma photo bloggers who visit the site.

A call to all Seattle/Tacoma photo bloggers...

I want to get us a group show. If you are interested in participating, send me a CD with your best images. You must send at least 3 images and a maximum of five. Make sure that the images are in their largest original format. Deadline for entries is April 30th. This should give everyone sometime to go through images, or get out and take some. After, I receive all entries I will get the images printed, assemble a portfolio, and find a gallery space. I hope to be able to include everyone who enters, but depending on the space the best entries will be invited for the final show. In order to allay any fears you will obtain rights to all photos sent. The files will only be used to print up 5x7 or 8x10 images to be placed into the portfolio.

Stats again

1. Send CD with 3 to 5 pictures in original size. (They can be altered however you want just make sure they are hi-res)

2. Include Name, Phone Number, Email, Address, website, and photo titles.

3. All entries must be submitted by April 30, 2004.

If you have any questions, or would like to help let me know.

Popup Link

This is one of my favorite murals. It's in downtown Seattle on first street I think. I thought I might crop out a lot of the surrounding scene. I decided in the end to leave it all in. I think it adds something overall.

I used to live in Seattle. I regret leaving all the time. Going back soon to stay!

Every Sunday, Jenni and I have brunch at a different Seattle restaurant with a floating circle of friends. Last Sunday, it was at Julia's on Broadway, and I had the bright Seattle winter sun (?) in my face. So I put my sunglasses on, and took Popup Linkthis picture of my spectacles on the table, with the shadows of the holly centerpiece.

This is my first contribution with my first digital camera, a Nikon 4500, that I got a week ago. I think it's going to work okay.

Located at the bottom of the street - Fauntleroy Park was my childhood backyard. Many long summer days and nights were spent in this 23 some odd arce Popup Linkwooded park blazing trails, building dams, and exploring.

Over the past few days, I've been Popup Linkwalking through the many Popup Linkpaths and trails found in that park. Many places I had not visited in years.

On what was originally farm land, you can still see remnants of the old - like Popup Linkthis tire and drive shaft

I present you with the best part of Fauntleroy Park: Fauntleroy Creek

So how many Seattle-area people are on here? Any interest in perhaps getting together at some point?
