Where else can one go and find plenty of statue's but a cemetery.  It looked like rain first thing this morning but then the sun came out (for a while) so I ran over to the cemetery here in town.  Lots of glare to deal with but I found plenty.  That's why I'm going to post in Parts.

This was not an easy shot for me.  I had to stand on a small rock at the edge of a pond and squat w/two bad knees.  And when I'm down for as long as I was I couldn't get back up-thank goodness my husband was with me :o). Had to have been a funny sight.  Then I got home to discover I cut the poor kids elbow off..other than that I like the shot.

Critiques very welcome.  Have a great day!

I revisited Groningen -the city where I work- for the challenge this time.
Groningen with her 42.000 students is one of the biggest city of knowledge in Nederland.
The main city transportation is of course the bicycle
The Railway Station is renovated 4 or 5 years ago. it has a beautiful ceiling

Opposite the station there is a contenporer Museum

This Iron Lady has been keeping an eye on her city for many years.

This picture is for TBell, he wanted to see the size of the mill stonesin the windmill.
In Frederick Meijer Garden you will find these two statues facing each other.  They say that they really don't know the reasoning behind these two men sitting like this.
At the Air Zoo there are these two planes in a dog fight - one is upside down and the other is painted on the mural.
There was also this old Ford in amongst the airplanes at the Air Zoo and I liked the headlights.
This shot is another that caught my eye at the Air Zoo, but it was not an airplane - it was a double steering wheel of an old car.  Not everything at the Air Zoo was airplanes

Today is hot and hazy so no new pictures, but a few more pictures of statues from Frederick Meijer Gardens.  The first one was a favorite of my brother-in-law, and he insisted that I had to walk out in the courtyard of the restaurant area to get a shot of this.

I received so many kudos for the Angel shots...I decided to post a few more...These all come from the Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston. It may seem morbid...but they take amazing photos and   I personally love the detail in all the sculptures. Lily Wings Solace

I was driving to Bristol, TN the day of the shot.  We pulled over for a potty break and I was standing in front of the car when the timer went off.  We were out in the country and this is what I saw.   I looked up the hill and couldn't resist shooting this.

Sean (my 6 yr. old) was yelling out the car window, "Mom, what the heck are you doin'?".

I couldn't resist adding this photo.  We pulled off the interstate at the exit for Bristol.  I'm trying to read mapquest directions and not run myself off the road at the same time when I hear Sean say, "Mom!  Look!  It's the Statue of Liberty!".
To which I reply, "That's in New York.  Now, shush, Mommy's trying to drive."  (Somehow silence is supposed to help me not be lost?)
Sean:  (Indignent) "Mooooooom.  It IS the Statue of Liberty!".
Me:  "No it's not!  THAT Statue is located in ........Oh...."

My camera is in for repair, so I'm only addressing half the challenge at this time.  However, I tried to make my three picks tie in to the theme of natural light.  The last two images have been posted here before.

This was shot at the Santa Fe photography workshop I attended in March.
This cow with an attitude was shot on our way home from Glacier National Park last summer.
This silhouette of Sinopah Mountain was shot on slide film a few summers ago.  I scanned it using a Nikon film scanner.

Red, White & Blue.
A Hint Of Rainbow.

This bridge is called the Tridge it is a rare place that three rivers meet.  We walked all three parts of the Tridge.  There is a couple that sits there day in and day out just looking at it and holding hands.

Now just for a laugh.  This is  Sinatra my Uncles rooster.  He calls him his "crow".  But he showed us not to ever get between a rooster and his hen.  Or this can happen to you!  I laughed so hard when this happened I couldn't believe I got the shots.

The Getty Villa has re-opened

My wife and I went to the newly re-opened Getty Villa. For those that don't know, it is a museum of Greek and Roman antiquities set in a replica of a Roman Villa in Herculaneum that was buried by the eruption of Vesuvius. And it is on a hill above Santa Monica Bay. It is a beautiful place and just newly renovated. It is full of  marble statues and  bronze busts and bronze statues. It is set up just like a villa with an inner peristyle with bronze statues of   women standing next to a pool. And there is an outer peristyle with a statue of  Bacchus and some beautiful  frescos. There is a new  ampitheater.
The  east garden fountain is nice as is the new entrance entrance2  I also got a picture of a wild eyed bronze and an orange fruit or seedpod. We had a great time even though it rained. We recommend anyone that can, to make reservations and enjoy the art and architecture architecture 2 architecture 3.
