The main city transportation is of course the bicycle
The Railway Station is renovated 4 or 5 years ago. it has a beautiful ceiling

Opposite the station there is a contenporer Museum

This Iron Lady has been keeping an eye on her city for many years.

Last of the Two's

This picture is for TBell, he wanted to see the size of the Popup Linkmill stonesin the windmill.
In Frederick Meijer Garden you will find these Popup Linktwo statues facing each other.  They say that they really don't know the reasoning behind these two men sitting like this.
At the Air Zoo there are these Popup Linktwo planes in a dog fight - one is upside down and the other is painted on the mural.
There was also this old Ford in amongst the airplanes at the Popup LinkAir Zoo and I liked the headlights.
This shot is another that caught my eye at the Air Zoo, but it was not an airplane - it was a double Popup Linksteering wheel of an old car.  Not everything at the Air Zoo was airplanes

A Few More Statues

By Lidljo written 7/14/06 10:13 AM, published 7/14/06 10:13 AM

Today is hot and hazy so no new pictures, but a few more pictures of statues from Frederick Meijer Gardens.  The first one was a favorite of my brother-in-law, and he insisted that I had to walk out in the courtyard of the restaurant area to get a shot of this.

Angels among us...

I received so many kudos for the Angel shots...I decided to post a few more...These all come from the Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston. It may seem morbid...but they take amazing photos and   I personally love the detail in all the sculptures. Popup LinkLily Popup LinkWings Popup LinkSolace

My synch shot....

By jellybean written 5/14/06 4:53 PM, published 5/14/06 4:53 PM
I was driving to Bristol, TN the day of the shot.  We pulled over for a potty break and I was standing in front of the car when the timer went off.  We were out in the country and this is what I Popup Linksaw.   I looked up the hill and couldn't resist shooting Popup Linkthis.

Sean (my 6 yr. old) was yelling out the car window, "Mom, what the heck are you doin'?".

I couldn't resist adding this photo.  We pulled off the interstate at the exit for Bristol.  I'm trying to read mapquest directions and not run myself off the road at the same time when I hear Sean say, "Mom!  Look!  It's the Statue of Liberty!".
To which I reply, "That's in New York.  Now, shush, Mommy's trying to drive."  (Somehow silence is supposed to help me not be lost?)
Sean:  (Indignent) "Mooooooom.  It IS the Statue of Liberty!".
Me:  "No it's not!  THAT Statue is located in ........Popup LinkOh...."

Half the Challenge

By tomnorth written 5/7/06 2:15 PM, published 5/7/06 2:15 PM
My camera is in for repair, so I'm only addressing half the challenge at this time.  However, I tried to make my three picks tie in to the theme of natural light.  The last two images have been posted here before.

This was shot at the Popup LinkSanta Fe photography workshop I attended in March.
This Popup Linkcow with an attitude was shot on our way home from Glacier National Park last summer.
This Popup Linksilhouette of Sinopah Mountain was shot on slide film a few summers ago.  I scanned it using a Nikon film scanner.

Popup LinkThis bridge is called the Popup LinkTridge it is a rare place that three rivers meet.  We walked all three parts of the Tridge.  There is a Popup Linkcouple that sits there day in and day out just looking at it and Popup Linkholding hands.

Now just for a laugh.  This is  Popup LinkSinatra my Uncles rooster.  He calls him his "crow".  But he showed us not to ever get between a rooster and his hen.  Or Popup Linkthis can happen to Popup Linkyou!  I laughed so hard when this happened I couldn't believe I got the shots.

The Getty Villa has re-opened

By vintner67 written 3/5/06 2:11 PM, published 3/5/06 2:11 PM
My wife and I went to the newly re-opened Getty Villa. For those that don't know, it is a museum of Greek and Roman antiquities set in a replica of a Popup LinkRoman Villa in Herculaneum that was buried by the eruption of Vesuvius. And it is on a hill above Santa Monica Bay. It is a beautiful place and just newly renovated. It is full of  Popup Linkmarble statues and  Popup Linkbronze busts and Popup Linkbronze statues. It is set up just like a villa with an Popup Linkinner peristyle with bronze statues of   Popup Linkwomen standing next to a pool. And there is an Popup Linkouter peristyle with a statue of  Popup LinkBacchus and some beautiful  Popup Linkfrescos. There is a new  Popup Linkampitheater.
The  Popup Linkeast garden fountain is nice as is the Popup Linknew entrance Popup Linkentrance2  I also got a picture of a Popup Linkwild eyed bronze and an Popup Linkorange fruit or seedpod. We had a great time even though it rained. We recommend anyone that can, to make reservations and enjoy the Popup Linkart and Popup Linkarchitecture Popup Linkarchitecture 2 Popup Linkarchitecture 3.

I finally got time to go by and take a better picture of our 'big indian'.  I didn't actually get out of the car, so I didn't find out who carved it.  But here are a couple of pictures:  Popup Linkthrough the window [tinted!] and Popup Linkafter rolling the window down!  At a different park, I took a few pictures of trees:  Popup Linkfabulous color and Popup Linkfun with shadows.

NOTE:  no post processing on any of these photos.  I used slide film [200] and had it cross processed.  I love the saturated color!

Some pictures of London

A couple of pics that I liked from my latest trip.

Popup LinkLion at the base of Nelson's Tower in Trafalgar Square. I like the how the bronze/greenish colours stand out.

Popup LinkPolice bike and Nelson's Tower. I wish I didn't have to use the flash but London is a dark place in the winter....

Vegas, Baby!

By Dreamer written 1/9/06 7:04 PM, published 1/9/06 7:04 PM
These are my favorite pictures from a trip to Las Vegas last year. I love horses, so of course had to take a picture of the Popup Linkpegasus statue at Caesar's Palace. I was being rushed (lots of other tourists walking in front!) so I quickly snapped the shot. Turned out to be my favorite picture from the whole trip! Another one of my favorites was at the Aquarium in Mandalay Bay. Another rushed shot, that turned out to be better than any pictures of the fish! Popup LinkStatue pic.
Not the best picture, but one that shows one of the reasons why I always stay in the Luxor pyramid... Popup LinkThe View!
