While not perfect, Photographica will now try to find related tags.  It makes these attempts based on the fequency of other tags found in the stories tagged with your search term.

Set theory baby.  Oh Yeah.

Hello!

This is a reminder(!).  Don't forget to go back in time and tag your old posts! If somebody posts without tags, do it for them!  It is pretty cool watching the tag cloud thingy evolve.  Once we get more stuff tagged, there is all levels of coolness in store for how to navigate this website.  There is no reason we can't pull off some of the stuff flickr does.  But it needs you to work.

This reminder has been brought to you buy the letters R, D and J and the number 2.

Thank you,

The Management.

UPDATED by Aaron: Just a reminder about those tags: keep them relevant to the subject of the photo. Please don't put your name on all of your posts - it's an abuse of the tag system. If we want to see all your posts, we'll click your username and view your stories. Same goes for locations, camera equipment, etc. If a majority of your posts all have the same tags (especially if that tag is only used by you), it's probably not an appropriate tag.

I recently noticed a new feature called "Add Tags" next to the "Read Comments" link on each post. What are tags and how do you use them?

Tagging is a system lets you, the reader and participant of this website, decide how to catagorize the vast amount of information at this website.

For example, using tags - Here is a map of all the tags so far.  The larger the tag is, the more popular it is.

The Goal
The goal of tagging is to look at a story and say "wow, I want to see more posts like this one!".  So you view its tags and find a characteristic you would like to see more of.

The Catch
See, the idea behind tagging is that you get to decide what uniquely describes a post.  So the catch is it is up to you to make it work!

The Process
The process of tagging is pretty simple.  You take a post (like this one) and ask yourself "what words describe this story and its images".  You then click Show Tags or Add Tags and click Change, which will let you add and remove tags associated with a story.  If you feel an existing tag doesn't accuratly describe the post, you can remove it.  If you feel there is a phrase that also could describe the post, you can add it.  Sometimes the system will suggest phrases already in the system.  You can accept one of those, or use your own.

Now what?
We need to get started.  I encourage every one of you to go back and tag your old posts.  The more posts on this website that get tagged, the better.

Remember, you can do this to anybodies story, not just your own!

So.... Go fourth and tag!

It's been another LOOONNG day.  With a little help from you, I've added a brand new way to navigate this website.  What did I add?  Tags.  Aka Folksonomies

What the heck are tags?
Tags are a way you, the members of this site, can categorize the many, many posts found on this website.  If your post is about Lights in Seattle, you'd tag the post as "Lights" and "Seattle".  The system has a built in way of checking your tag against what already exists, so you might want to use that.

I'll write more... but I'm mentally dead
Yup... I've been doing this since 9 this morning, so that is about 12 hours straight.

Night ya'll... I'll explain more tommorow.

PS:  DailyKOS.  Eat your heart out.
