With apologies to SurferGuy for stealing his title and for being jealous of his ocean.  You do own that ocean don't you SG?

Still haven't found the corn shot I'm looking for. Did pick up a couple ticks while out there. I would have shot them if I'd seen the new challenge.

Textures in Tennessee

By lhoneycutt written 7/12/06 8:59 AM, published 7/12/06 8:59 AM

I took the day off from work and I was just thinking about taking a few pictures and doing something fun, when I looked right outside my kitchen window and noticed an interesting Popup LinkTree. I have probably seen this tree 1,000 times, but I really looked at it today. At first it reminded me of a smiling clowns mouth, but after I worked on a few Popup LinkTexture
Popup LinkImages it started to look like Popup Linksomething different.
So I took a few more images Popup Linkthrough the brick wall before I went back to the Popup Linktree. I also tried one with a little Popup Linkspot color. I kind of liked my little Popup Linkpuff ball too.

I also spent a little time out front. I know flower pictures can be a dull sometimes, but I am just frustrated the my Popup LinkImpatians are doing well, my Popup LinkTouch me nots are starting to bloom, but for every little geranium bud that Popup Linkflowers five more seem to Popup Linkdie. Maybe these will Popup Linksurvive. I welcome all comments about my photos, and/or any tips you have about caring for Geraniums! (ha-ha)

P.S. Since I am new, please tell me if this post is a little too long ;) Also, I didn't realize that I could post...to my own post...to respond to the comments people posted to me...this time I will!

Saturday, dropped Barb off at her parents and I went over town and walked some alleys. Been a day or so since I was able to get out and shoot and was getting antsy.  Just miscellaneous stuff that caught my eye.
The filter effects come from an action that lilbit pointed us to in a forum topic, in case you're interested. I've been playing with the action for a couple days, since I couldn't get out, and like it. Thanks, lilbit, for the action and for giving me something to do for those days.

Stumped on Textures

Okay, dilemma has set in on what to post for texture. All of you have had great shots on your posts. But I tend to be different and odd. (keeps em' guessing) So I have seen Cracker, Legos, Critters (my favs), and so on. So here I am running in and out of the house trying to get into the first Bi-Weekly Challenge for me, but you guys and gal are so darned quick. I figured I would set this one out, so I was sitting outside with my trusty camera in hand and leaning on my Camera Bag thinking and thinking. Then it hit me. Hmmmmmmm. Nope, I have not seen this posted. I HAVE AN ORIGINAL THOUGHT (does not happen often LOL) So I open my handy dandy Camera Bag, grab out the ole 50mm Macro and proceed to shoot my ORIGINAL THOUGHT ( I am going to be so embarrassed if someone beat me to it LOL) But I hope yall enjoy!
Popup LinkYup, good ole Handy dandy Camera Bag finally get some respect!! I have realized one of two things. 1.) It is just as important as your Camera and Lenses. or 2.) I have really lost it on this post! LOL  Oh, I did find one thing at the Roger Williams Zoo in RI on the 4th that is Texture of two kinds. Popup LinkSoft Gentle White Rose over Hard Gritty Brick That is all for now, but I have been working on Portraits of my kids for the next post. Have a good night all. Jamey

I'm home alone again today. Barb had to leave work cause both her parents are back in the hospital. I'd just been sitting around here setting stuff up and shooting it.  Now, it seems pretty insignificant.  Here they are anyway.  Everything is pretty self-explanatory but the money... Barb supervises housekeeping in the university's family housing complex and finds a lot of international coins.  The photo contains those and an 1889 Liberty Silver dollar by grandmother gave me.

Yesterday when I made the still life setup with the flag and historic documents. I decided to play around with the texture challenge and setup some of the stuff I keep back in my room for drawing, jewelry, crafts, or whatever. I love contrasts in photos, contrasts of texture, color, value, pattern, focus, the list goes on and on.  It can draw the eye and create tensions between elements.  I tried that in a couple.  We shoot for the moon and, sometimes, fall horribly short!

Yesterday, my lovely Popup Link wife and I went on a short road-trip excursion to the towns of Ojai and Santa Barbara.

We took the scenic view of thePopup Link Ojai Valley, after stopping in town to see the local architecture, including the
Popup Link Ojai Post Office  along with some galleries, shops, etc. Throughout the town are these beautiful Popup Link Jacaranda  trees.

After a couple of hours in town, we got back into the car and headed up the highway to  Santa Barbara.  First, we stopped at Popup Link Mission Santa Barbara Popup Link(plaque)  founded by Popup Link Father ("Padre")Sera

I couldn't help noticing the contrasting textures in these shots.  Especially the Ojai Valley shot, "Mission", and "Padre"

This represents the textures of old wood and rusted metal. I call it simply Popup LinkSled

I thought the shades of green and cream along with the pools of water from the previous night's rain added a nice feel to the various textures in this image. Popup LinkHostas and Fern

The textures of this ageless rock surrounded by the violets, that have lost their blooms, and the trumpet vine, that has yet to blossum, caught my eye. Popup LinkRock with Violets and Trumpet Vine

Texture Extra: While sitting on the deck yesterday, I marveled at how the late afternoon sun played on this small wave petunia causing it to cast its shadow on the wall. Popup LinkWave petunia and shadow

Caution, boring shots ahead! I have been sick with a severe sinus infection have been home regulated to rest by the doctor, and more importantly, the wife. I started to goof off with the camera and I came up with a series on textures.

Some pictures that I found as I'm trying to organize my old pictures. I thought it would make a good series for patterns and textures. As individual pictures they do not stand out, but as a collection, they oddly present an idea.
