Snapping Turtle Parardise

By momof3pics written 7/3/08 3:03 PM, published 7/3/08 3:03 PM

Guess what I got out for a bit today. Of course it was to take my son to a appointment but we made the best of it. It was a rainy morning and after his appointment we stopped to check out the nature path near the creek. It was still raining but only drizzle at the time. We parked the Van and went to the bridge.

My son found something very cool and this is the photo story of this finding.

Turtle swim

By RobinG written 6/14/08 7:14 AM, published 6/14/08 7:15 AM

At the elk sanctuary there is a little pond with a dock.   I like to walk on the dock, usually the geese come begging for food, but this day I had about a dozen turtles begging.  It was fun to watch them.

I went back to take some pictures of it later in the season and came across this lovely lady laying her eggs.

I didn't want to get too close and upset her or because she's a snapping turtle and they can move pretty quick, I stayed back out of self preservation. For me this was a first. I've seen turtles lay eggs on TV, never thought to see it in person!

Also, thank you goes out to everyone who helped with thier tips on setting my camera for the speed shots. It definately made a difference last night and I'm not sure but I thought I saw  Popup Linkwildman last night! J/K

Decided to check out the Popup Linkcreek by my place. It was very quiet and Popup Linkclear . As I made my way down the bank towards the Popup Linkweeds . I saw a Popup Linkturtle swimming away. I looked down and saw the head of a Popup Linkfrog . There were many Popup Linkrocks and moss in the water. There was a Popup Linktree stump sticking out of the water. I also saw a Popup Linkmushroom growing on the side of a tree. I took one more Popup Linkpic before I left. And is you look closely there another frog looking up at me.

My Adventure

By KayN written 8/17/05 2:28 PM, published 8/17/05 2:28 PM
I went out today with the express purpose of finding a "falls" that I'd heard was beautiful.  In my mind, for some reason, I thought you could drive to it.  NO PROBLEM!!  As I was going there, there was a pull-off where you could see for miles.  Here's the pano of the Popup Linkview.  (I messed up on the first stitch, tried to fix it, but couldn't.)  So, I get to where I'm going only to find that you have to hike a  Popup Linktrail that takes between 2-3 hours!  I wasn't Popup Linkdressed for this, but I thought, what the heck, I'm here.  I'll go for it.  So, we (my dog, Baby and I) take off walking.  A L O N G ways into the hike, I see some Popup Linkwater.  And, then I see a little  Popup Linkfalls.  Not what I had imagined I'd see.  We kept going.  And getting hotter and  Popup Linkhotter.  We did meet a  Popup Linkfriend or Popup Linktwo along the way.  I saw a lot of Popup Linktrees like this.  We kept going, but never did find the "big falls".  Just when I thought I couldn't go another step farther, I spotted Popup Linkthese.  But, we were real troopers and kept going 'cause I'd seen a sign that said the parking lot was only a few hundred yards away.  We made it back to the car in record time, I thought.  It took us 2 hours to make the "loop".  Driving out of the park, I spotted   Popup Linkthese, Popup Linkthese,  Popup Linkthese and  Popup Linkthis.  Hope y'all enjoyed the walk!  Man, my feet hurt......

Animals!

By pua nani written 8/10/05 10:22 PM, published 8/10/05 10:22 PM
I was going through some pictures and found that I had a lot of pictures of animals. So here's a little story of some animals. Our journey is going to start at Popup LinkSea World. Where they have Popup Linkdolphins,  Popup Linkbaluga whales,  Popup Linkturtles and the world famous Popup LinkShamu. Who is not the only one who knows how to  Popup Linkwave. We can't forget the pink Popup Linkflamingoes, and  Popup Linkhungry seals. And of course my personal favorite the always hard to photograph  Popup Linkbat ray.

After Sea World we go to the domestic animals, my personal favorite,  Popup LinkAnubis, my kitty and  Popup LinkCoconut, my fiance's kitty. Here is them being  Popup Linkshy, Coconut had some knotts in her fur and wasn't thrilled about getting a hair cut.  Here's Coconut looking at something, Popup Linkcurious. And Anubis doing what he does Popup Linkbest.

And now a trip to the beach where for some reason there was a large number of Popup Linksea clams, and later that night there was a  Popup Linkjellyfish, kinda startling since we set up 'camp' for surf fishing right behind there.

Now back to Colorado where we met Popup LinkGuiness at the wolf santuary. And at the Mountain Zoo we met some sleepy Popup Linkriver otters, a  Popup Linklittle monkey, and a  Popup Linkhippo. Back at the Royal Gorge there were some natives a  Popup Linkbuffalo, and an Popup Linkelk.

And that concludes todays lesson. Enjoy.
